The National Science Foundation (NSF) awards a team of researchers with $500,000 to study the cause of salinization in the lands of Colorado.
Furthermore, the researchers will study the lakes and reservoirs where farmers get their irrigation water from. Also, they’ll measure the water flow and salt concentration of rainfall and runoff if these are the reasons why crop yield reduces.
Moreover, the data will help enhance the use of watershed hydrology and nutrient transport tool of salt movement in irrigation areas. Last, the researchers will focus on eradicating the cause of salinization.
