CoverCress, a plant-breeding company that utilizes CRISPR gene-editing tool, raised an investment of $2 million with Bayer Growth Ventures and BioGenerator to launch its newest invention.

The said company develops a new generation of pennycress to provide farmers with off-season cash crop through biofuel applications. Also, it can play as both a cash crop or soil-nourishing cover crop to protect the soil and increase the income of farmers through another cash crop.

Moreover, the company sees a great opportunity in Midwestern crop farmers using this product to improve sustainability and revenue stream in their crop rotations.
